Do you have any tips for the letters of recommendation?
Each letter of recommendation should be from an adult who is not related to the applicant. This may be a teacher, principal, after-school activity leader, scout leader, neighbor or family friend. Letters will need to be scanned and uploaded with the online application. They should not be mailed separately.
Each letter should include:
- The writer’s name, address and contact information. A letter from a principal or other adult representing a school or formal group/organization should be on letterhead.
- The letter may be addressed to Space Camp Scholarship Review Committee. However, other salutations such as, Dear Sir or Madam or To Whom It May Concern, are acceptable.
- A good letter of recommendation will include:
- An explanation of how and for how long the writer has known the applicant.
- A brief discussion of the applicant’s strengths and positive personality traits that make him or her a good candidate for a scholarship. It helps to include a few specific examples illustrating those strengths or traits. Tell the person writing the recommendation about the category and the program for which you are applying so that he or she may focus on the applicant’s strengths and traits related to the category and program.
- A wholehearted recommendation for you to receive a Space Camp scholarship.
- The letter of recommendation should be signed. An unsigned letter will not disqualify your application if sufficient contact information is included but it may receive fewer points.
