Summerfest Update – “We’re go for launch!”
Since our last alumni newsletter in April, so many great people and events have been confirmed for the Summerfest 2016 lineup of events. If you are an alumnus and looking for a reason to come back, please make plans to come to Summerfest and celebrate all things "Space Camp!"

Totally 80s Concert in Shuttle Park

The U.S. Space & Rocket Center Foundation is presenting its second annual Concert in Shuttle Park, coming on Saturday, July 16, and we’re celebrating the 80s this year!

2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the major motion picture, “Space Camp,” so this year’s installment of the concert series revels in the decade that catapulted a small youth camp in North Alabama into a cultural icon.

'Summer Smart Play' is Now Open

Children of all ages can experience the forces of energy and nature as the U.S. Space & Rocket Center® presents its newest featured exhibition, “
Summer Smart Play." On display until July 25, this exhibit includes a variety of fun activities and displays, including some recently acquired items from Sci-Quest, Hands-on Science Center.

2016 Space Camp Hall of Fame

The U.S. Space & Rocket Center® is pleased to announce the selection of three outstanding individuals who make up the 2016 class of the Space Camp® Hall of Fame: Jason Hopkins, an aerospace engineer and business development specialist at Masten Space Systems and a former NASA Fellow; Dr. Amy Kaminsky, Senior Policy Advisor, Office of the Chief Scientist, NASA; and George Whitesides, CEO of Virgin Galactic and The Spaceship Company.

In honor of the 30th anniversary of its release, the Rocket Center is also inducting the cast of “Space Camp,” a movie that launched the dream of attending Space Camp for thousands of children. Larry B. Scott, who played Rudy Tyler in the movie, will accept the induction of the cast into the Space Camp Hall of Fame.

2016 Space Camp Hall of Fame Auction

Last year’s Space Camp Hall of Fame auction generated more than $13,000 for Space Camp program scholarships. This year, with the help of auction coordinators and Space Camp Hall of Fame members Michelle Lucas and Vincent Vazzo, we hope to hit our goal of $17,500. When asked what her favorite items up for bid were, Michelle said, “There are so many exciting items this year, it’s hard for me to pick my favorites. But if I must choose I’d have to go with the amazing painting by astronaut Nicole Stott, the Space Symposium registration (a MUST-attend event for all us space geeks!) and the Star Wars film splice! I know I plan to be doing a bit of bidding on all of these and more.”
