SPACE CAMP Promotions

The new SPACE CAMP Barbie® promotion was a big hit over the summer, and the USSRC has some exciting new projects to follow that success:

SPACE CAMP has partnered with ICEE® and Sylvan Learning Center to promote the new computer-animated movie IGOR, which premiered September 19. IGOR puts a new twist on the classic monster story, when a hunch-backed assistant gets the chance to follow his dream by entering the annual "Evil Science Fair." Look for sweepstakes information and the new limited-time IGOR ICEE flavor wherever ICEE is sold. See more about the sweepstakes at www.icee.com/igor and learn more about the movie at www.igor-movie.com.

We are also partnering with Disney Interactive to offer a SPACE CAMP Sweepstakes in conjunction with the release of their upcoming video game entitled Spectrobes: Beyond the Portal. The new Nintendo DS game, which will be released this September, is the anticipated sequel to the platinum selling game, Spectrobes. You can see more about the game at http://disney.go.com/disneyinteractivestudios/spectrobes.

The SPACE CAMP Marketing family would like to announce the addition of its newest member: SCOOT-R (Space Camp Orientation & Operations Robot). SCOOT-R will be featured on a wide variety of marketing materials for 2009, including our Web site, our new camp CD, in ads, and on posters. You can currently see SCOOT-R at his first guest appearance on the Huntsville Botanical Garden Scarecrow Trail, which opened September 3 and runs throughout September and October of this year. The scarecrow SCOOT-R (shown at left) was created by Kelly Pratt and our talented facilities construction team.

New posters featuring SCOOT-R were used to fulfill a recently-concluded sweepstakes with Checker's/Rally's. The Marketing Department has a limited supply of these posters that are available to our SPACE CAMP alumni on a first-come, first-served basis. For your complimentary SCOOT-R poster, please e-mail jeremyr@spacecamp.com.

Alumni Spotlight

James Ross Vessels (Ross, as he is known by his family and friends) is currently a seventh-grader at Saint Stephen Martyr School in Louisville, Kentucky, where he makes straight A's--at least he is working hard to try and keep it that way. During his free time, Ross enjoys running cross-country for his school, working on 4-H projects, where he won several blue ribbons and a Grand Champion Ribbon at this year's State Fair, and playing the guitar and his video games. On weekends and during the summer, however, Ross spends his time at various youth camps, and during the summer of 2005, he discovered one camp that proved most exciting: SPACE CAMP.

Ross first learned about SPACE CAMP in his science class at school. When he mentioned it at home, his dad, Dennis, was already familiar with the program from various television specials and having heard about the movie. Together, Ross and his dad decided to take the SPACE CAMP adventure--in June 2005, they experienced the weekend of a lifetime at Parent/Child Camp. The father-and-son duo had a blast and Ross says his adventures at SPACE CAMP have encouraged him to work even harder in school, although science was already his favorite subject. Ross saved the special photo of him and his dad at Camp (shown above) as his computer's wallpaper ever since the experience!

This past November, Ross and his family were thrilled to learn that Ross's science class from Saint Stephen's would be visiting the USSRC in Huntsville! Ross and his dad were able to re-visit all the exciting experiences that they shared on their adventure during Parent/Child weekend. Ross even had a chance to pick up some NASA software virtual reality games, which he loves.

In the future, Ross hopes to attend a weeklong SPACE CAMP program and one day to become a scientist, possibly a chemist, for NASA! He has a great interest in the study of alternative spacecraft fuels.

Ross, his dad, and his mom, Rosanna, would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful opportunities that SPACE CAMP has provided for their family.
