Skylab Restoration Project

Skylab Restoration Project
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center (USSRC) is home to one of three full-scale training mock-ups built for Skylab, Americas first space station. This mock-up was used for training by astronauts and engineers at Marshall Space Flight Center during the Skylab missions. At the conclusion of the program, this mock-up was put on display in the main museum atrium at the USSRC. As additional artifacts were exhibited and moved into the main museum, it became necessary to move the Skylab trainer. With the opening of the Davidson Center for Space Exploration, this additional space has now made it possible to properly house the Skylab trainer. The trainer needs to be restored and preserved for display. The restoration project and informational displays to accompany the piece are expected to cost $1.4 million. By restoring Skylab to it’s original condition and preserving it from the elements, we help ensure that the legacy of America’s space program is preserved for future generations. Donations are now being accepted for the Skylab Restoration. Any amount is welcome. The base donation amount is $10. You may increment your total gift amount by $10 per quantity entered (below).
