The U.S. Space & Rocket Center houses thousands of documents, papers, and photographs donated by Dr. Wernher von Braun, members of his Rocket Team, Frederick I. Ordway, III, and many other scientists and engineers. In order to make this collection more accessible to academia and researchers, the USSRC would like to move its Archives to an addition that would be built onto the southwestern side of the Davidson Center for Space Exploration.

During the design phase for the Davidson Center for Space Exploration, USSRC management had architects draw a plan with enough space to include in this addition both the Archives and space for traveling exhibits. As USSRC officials moved through the estimating process, it became clear that this section of the building would have to be added at a later date as it is expected to cost about $5 million.

Though not able to fund the construction in 2007, the USSRC did authorize site preparation for the Archives section and extra footings on the south side of the building were added to facilitate this future expansion.
