Auction Items


The 2009 Space Camp Hall of Fame Celebration will include a great opportunity for our guests in attendance. Every year the U.S. Space and Rocket Center awards scholarships to children to attend one of the weeklong Space Camp programs. This year we are presenting a Silent Auction to raise money for the scholarship fund. The silent auction items will be open to review and bid on from 5:30pm to 8:30pm on Saturday July 11th, 2009. The silent auction will only be available to those guests who are present to bid on them during the Space Camp Hall of Fame event and will include the items listed below as well as many others.



William Shatner Autographed Flightsuit, size Large

William Shatner is a Canadian actor and novelist. He gained worldwide fame and became a cultural icon for his portrayal of James T. Kirk, Captain of the starship USS Enterprise, in the television series Star Trek from 1966 to 1969, Star Trek: The Animated Series and in seven of the subsequent Star Trek feature films. He has written a series of books chronicling his experiences playing Captain Kirk and being a part of Star Trek as well as several co-written novels set in the Star Trek universe. He has also authored a series of science fiction novels called TekWar that were adapted for television.

Shatner also played the title veteran police sergeant in T.J. Hooker from 1982 to 1986. He has since worked as a musician, bestselling author, producer, director, and celebrity pitchman, most recently as the "Negotiator" for the Priceline.com travel website. From 2004 to 2008, he starred as attorney Denny Crane on the television drama Boston Legal, for which he has won three Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award. As of 2009, Shatner stars as the voice of Don Salmonella Gavone on the animated series "The Gavones."

 

Tom Hanks Autographed "Apollo 13" movie poster

Tom Hanks is an American actor. Hanks worked in television and family-friendly comedies before achieving success as a dramatic actor portraying several notable roles, including Andrew Beckett in Philadelphia, the title role in Forrest Gump, Commander James A. Lovell in Apollo 13, Captain John H. Miller in Saving Private Ryan, Michael Sullivan in Road to Perdition, Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's Toy Story, and Chuck Noland in Cast Away. Hanks won back-to-back Oscars for Best Actor in 1993-94. His domestic box office totals exceed $3.3 billion. He is the father of actor Colin Hanks.

This movie poster measures approximately 39.5" x 27" and is from the 1995 film that dramatized the ill-fated lunar mission in 1970. The movie was adapted by William Broyles, Jr. and Al Reinert from the book Lost Moon by Jim Lovell and Jeffrey Kluger. The movie was directed by Ron Howard.

The film garnered critical acclaim and was nominated for many awards, most notably 9 Oscars and won for Best Film Editing and Best Sound Mixing at the 1996 Academy Awards. The score was composed by James Horner who also received an Oscar nomination for best Original Music Score.

Homer Hadley Hickam, Jr. is an American author, Vietnam veteran, and a former NASA engineer. His autobiographical novel Rocket Boys: A Memoir, was a #1 New York Times Best Seller, is studied in many American and international school systems, and was the basis for the popular film October Sky. Hickam has also written a number of best-selling memoirs and novels including the "Josh Thurlow" historical fiction novels. His books have been translated into several languages. He is married to Linda Terry Hickam, an artist and his first editor and assistant.

 

"The Power to Go" Canvas by artist Paul Calle

On July 16, 1969, one artist was asked by NASA to be with the Apollo 11 crew as they prepared for the launch to the moon. Paul Calle recorded the final moments on Earth of three brave men, before they journeyed to the moon. "The Power to Go", is Calle's interpretation of the launch of Apollo 11's Saturn V rocket and the 7.5 million pounds of thrust it produced at lift-off.

"The Power to Go" was reproduced into a mural that adorns the staircase leading up to the Saturn V Hall in the Davidson Center for Space Exploration at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

Prior to John Glenn's return to space in 1998, Musgrave held the record for the oldest person in orbit, at age 62. He retired from NASA in 1997.

Astronaut Robert "Hoot" Gibson's Rugby shirt WORN IN SPACE

This shirt was worn on Space Shuttle mission STS-47. A photograph of Hoot wearing the shirt in space will accompany the item and will be personally signed by Hoot to the winning bidder on July 11, 2009

Retired Navy Captain Robert "Hoot" Gibson, has an Aeronautical Engineering degree from California Polytechnic State University. He served as an F-4 Phantom and F-14 Tomcat pilot for the Navy from 1969 until 1978 when he was selected for the astronaut corps. He was with NASA for eight years and flew five shuttle missions, four as Mission Commander. His final flight was the first mission to rendezvous with the Russian space station MIR. During his career, Hoot has accumulated over 12,000 hours of flight time in over 60 types of military and civilian aircraft. He has established five aviation and three space world records. Captain Gibson spent a total of 36.5 days in space

 

John Williams Autographed Star Wars Sheet Music

John Williams is an American composer, conductor, and pianist. In a career that spans six decades, Williams has composed many of the most famous film scores in Hollywood history, including Star Wars, Superman, Born on the Fourth of July, Harry Potter and all but one of Steven Spielberg's feature films including the Indiana Jones series, Schindler's List, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Jaws.

Star Wars is an epic space opera franchise initially conceived by George Lucas. The first film was originally released on May 25, 1977 by 20th Century Fox, and became a worldwide pop culture phenomenon, spawning two immediate sequels, released in three-year intervals. Sixteen years after the release of the trilogy's final film, the first in a new prequel trilogy of films was released, again released in three-year intervals, with the final film released on May 19, 2005.
