Main Exhibit Area

The U.S. Space & Rocket Center (USSRC) is a Smithsonian Affiliate and the Official Visitor Center for NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. The Center has one of the largest collections of rockets and space memorabilia anywhere in the world. Guests learn about the dramatic Space Race – NASA’s journey toward putting man on the moon – through the development of the Space Shuttle program and International Space Station, and look forward to the latest technological innovations for the future. The USSRC collection also includes the original Mercury and Gemini capsule trainers, the Apollo 16 capsule “Casper,” a Skylab solar array and many hands-on interactive exhibits and space travel simulators.

Also, enjoy daily features on the 67-foot screen in Huntsville’s only full-dome IMAX® Theater, located near the main exhibit area. Finally, make plans to go on a tour of Redstone Arsenal, headquarters to the Army Materiel Command and home of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. The tour, which operates daily, includes the National Historic Landmark Redstone Test Stand, the International space Station mission control center for experiments and the Dynamic Test Stand used to test the Saturn V rocket.

Saturn V Hall at the Davidson Center for Space Exploration

Experience the mesmerizing view of a National Historic Landmark – an authentic Saturn V rocket – one of only three in the world, located in the Saturn V Hall at the Davidson Center for Space Exploration. The 68,200-square-foot building was built to showcase NASA and Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) contributions to historical, current and future space exploration. Saturn V Hall also houses the 3-D Digital Theater, a 350-seat theater with an impressive 52-foot high-definition screen. Rocket Park

Rocket Park at the USSRC was called “the finest rocket collection in the world” by U.S. Senator John Glenn. In the park, 27 missiles and rockets show how Army rocketry initiated the Alabama space program and gave rise to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center.

Shuttle Park

Explore the most complete chronology of launch vehicles in the country, including the world’s only fully-stacked Space Transportation System (STS) that includes two solid rocket boosters, genuine space shuttle main engine nozzles and a genuine external tank. This orbiter, Pathfinder, is on display in Shuttle Park.

Brick Locator

Visit the commemorative bricks in the Apollo Courtyard that encircle the vertical Saturn V rocket outside the Davidson Center for Space Exploration. Alumni and supporters of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center are included in this collection of commemorative bricks honoring the innovative engineers and scientists who took us to the moon.
