Mars Pass the Torch Lecture Features Dr. Barbara Cohen
Dr. Barbara Cohen, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center planetary scientist, will be the featured speaker at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s next Pass the Torch lecture on August 2, 2012, from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. in the 3D Digital Theater. Dr. Cohen will talk about NASA’s exploration of Mars, from Pathfinder to Spirit and Opportunity to the Mars Curiosity rover, which is scheduled to land on the Red Planet on August 5. Dr. Cohen is a science and operations team member for the Mars Exploration Rovers Spirit and Opportunity, which are still exploring Mars after 8 years.
Her science interests focus on the formation and evolution of the Earth, Moon, Mars and asteroids. At Marshall, she helps plan new robotic missions to the planets for science and human exploration, and develops new techniques to understand planetary samples in the laboratory and robotically. She even has an asteroid named for her, Asteroid 6186 Barbcohen.
