Fly-A-Teacher

U.S. Space & Rocket Center and Civil Air Patrol
Partners for the Fly–a–Teacher Program

The U.S. Space & Rocket Center (USSRC) in Huntsville, AL is partnering with Civil Air Patrol (CAP) to offer the Fly–a–Teacher program on Saturday, July 26, 2008 from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.

This experience is an exciting program of instruction, discovery, and flight for teachers, who can then share the excitement, knowledge and aerial photographs of their flight experience with their students. The Fly–a–Teacher program is conducted by CAP for its educator members.

This day-long experience will include:

  • Hands–on workshops based on the national standards-based aerospace educational materials developed by CAP, NASA and the USSRC (topics include flight basics, instrumentation, safety, and careers)
  • A 30–minute Cessna airplane flight (includes preflight safety check, airplane orientation, and basic flight maneuvers in addition to the opportunity to take aerial photos to share with students)
  • Transportation to the MunicipalAirport
  • All educational activities and materials
  • Lunch and dinner/graduation ceremony

CAP Aerospace Education Membership (AEM), the membership includes insurance coverage for the flight, over 20 free educational products, free educational and awards programs, opportunities for classroom grants, and more! 

All participants must be U.S. citizens.

Pricing:
The total cost of the one day workshop is $99.

If you are a member of the CAP Aerospace Education, $35 fee will be deducted upon receipt of your membership ID #. 

If lodging is required for Friday and Saturday nights, the total charge will be $159 based on double occupancy rooms for both nights. The overnight program includes breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning and transportation to and from the workshop and to the Huntsville International airport, if necessary.

If the flights must be cancelled due to weather issues, the rest of the program will continue. Participants will be given a raincheck to participate in the actual flight portion with their local CAP representative.
