Resident Assistant Program

The Resident Assistant program is designed for individuals who wish to assist the U.S. Space Camp, X-Camp, Aviation Challenge, and the ropes course programs in maintaining a safe, enjoyable and supervised environment, 24 hours a day, for trainees in residence.
This position is only available to level 3 counselors whose main residence is more that 45 miles away from the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.
General responsibilities of Resident Assistants:
Provide general Habitat (dormitory) supervision and care for trainees.
Assist with behavior problems, homesickness and physical illness of trainees.
Assist with severe weather and fire evacuation procedures.
Assist Habitat personnel in monitoring maintenance and safety issues concerning Habitat facilities.
Serve as positive role model for trainees at all times.
Abide by all rules and regulations of the Habitat.
Maintain and clean common RA living areas.
Specific duties and Privileges of Resident Assistants:
Resident Assistant counselors receive housing and meals in exchange for completing assigned RA duties.
A Ward Room facility is provided to act as a living room for Resident Assistants.
Remain in assigned Habitat room and perform on-call duties from 11pm-7am, Sunday through Saturday on a rotating basis, approximately once every 3-6 weeks. Provide care and transportation for any trainee requiring off-site medical assistance. Serve as point of contact for any trainee needs arising during these hours.
The Habitats are tobacco free facilities and accommodate staff in two-person dorm-style rooms with community restrooms.
An RA may be placed in Habitat I, Habitat II, or Habitat III (at Aviation Challenge), as determined by the needs of the program. Meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are available in the U.S. Space & Rocket Center cafeteria. Meal privileges are not transferable and food items taken are for personal consumption. During slow seasons and holidays some meals may not be available due to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center's operating schedule.
Neglect of RA responsibilities or abuse of privileges will result in disciplinary action, as well as loss of RA position, housing, and meal benefits. All RA instructors shall be employees at will.
