Special statement regarding the international outbreak of swine influenza

The health and safety of our guests and trainees has always been a top priority at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center®. Each year, many thousands of families entrust their children into our care to take part in Space Camp®, Aviation Challenge®, or one of our other world-renowned educational programs. It’s a responsibility we take very seriously.

The U.S. Space & Rocket Center maintains its own Sick Bay facility, staffed around the clock by licensed medical professionals, to attend to the medical needs of our trainees. Our facilities personnel clean the museum and training area on a daily and nightly basis, sanitizing many of the surfaces our guests might come into contact with, and our staff has been briefed on the steps we can all take to prevent the spread of disease.

The USSRC Management Team continues to closely monitor developments in the international outbreak of swine influenza and remains in close contact with the Madison County Health Department and the Alabama Department of Public Health as this situation develops. We intend to follow the advice of State Health Officer Dr. Don Williamson who encourages citizens to remain aware and alert, but not to overreact.

The U.S. Space & Rocket Center will remain open and all educational programs remain operational. We encourage our guests to follow the basic rules of personal hygiene as established by the Centers for Disease Control, including washing your hands with soap and water often, cover your mouth and nose should you cough or sneeze, avoid touching your mouth, nose or eyes with your hands, and stay home if you feel sick.
