ATLANTA – The Space Camp® Team recently returned from a nine-day tour of Atlanta, where they visited Town Center at Cobb in Kennesaw and spoke to students at area schools about working and living in space.

Flight Suits

The history of the flight suit begins with the birth of powered flight and has changed as aviation and space flight have evolved. The original flight suits were a two piece suit intended to provide warmth and serve as a uniform. These suits were bulky and cumbersome to move in but were necessary to provide adequate protection from the elements since the aircraft provided no protection from the extreme cold of high altitudes.

One of the Coolest Products Ever

If you have not heard of Slooh you are missing out. Slooh is an amazing service that allows you to control high powered telescopes through your computer. Me and my son have really enjoyed this and have spent hours exploring the night sky. There is much more to this service such as audio information, ability to take and print pictures and one of the most helpful chat rooms I have ever been in. USSRC Gala to Mark 40th Anniversary Year of Apollo Moon Missions

HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Davidson Center for Space Exploration at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville will be the site of a black-tie optional dinner and dance celebrating the Apollo space program on Saturday, February 7, 2009, beginning with a reception at 6:00 P.M., dinner and program to follow at 7:00 P.M.
Apollo 16 astronaut Charlie Duke will be the featured speaker, and CNN’s Miles O’Brien will be the Master of Ceremonies.

SPACE CAMP® Grad and NASA Astronaut Scheduled for Space Shuttle Flight

HUNTSVILLE, AL – Space Camp graduate and Space Camp Hall of Fame inductee Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger is scheduled to fly aboard the space shuttle Atlantis in February, 2010. She will become the first Space Camp graduate to actually fly in space!
Dottie attended Space Academy when she was just 14 years old. She says the experience was life-changing and solidified her love for science.

U.S. Space & Rocket Center® to adjust hours of operation

Seasonal schedule to be observed during the winter months

HUNTSVILLE, AL – One of the leading tourist destinations in the Southeastern United States will adopt a seasonal operating schedule during the winter months of 2008- 09.

The U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama will close on Mondays and Tuesdays beginning November 3rd. Normal 7-day operations will resume on March 2, 2009. SPACE CAMP®, along with other educational programs and special functions offered by the U.S. Space & Rocket Center will not be affected by the temporary seasonal schedule.
